The New York Times’ 1619 Project magazine issue, which re-frames American history in light of how it was and continues to be shaped by slavery has become a point of contention between various political groups and has others trying to rewrite history.

The true history of America which acknowledges the role slavery playing in making this country seems to be threatening to those who sit in positions of power and those who refuse to come to terms that people of African descent payed a high price in building the United States.
